this brought out a yellow flag, 2024
pencil on paper, paste, 338 x 240 cm
Lisa Sifkovits created an in situ pencil drawing for the exhibition, which she traced onto the
garage door using paper. From a distance, you can see an almost full-size safety car. They are used in
motor racing to clear the track after an accident. In motorsport, this pause is referred to as
„neutralizing“ and is signaled by a yellow flag: no racer can overtake during this time, and the entire
speed is significantly reduced. The safety car then leaves the track, and the race continues. Sifkovits’
drawing expands the exhibition space’s architecture through the graphic and fictional. At the same time,
the dynamic movement of the car appears almost like an advertising poster. This aspect is underlined by
the fact that safety cars are often sponsored and serve an advertising purpose.
